Ahmedabad integrates Commonwealth Games planning into its long-term urban roadmap
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has presented its highest-ever draft civic budget of ₹17,018 crore for the 2026–27 financial year, formally linking major infrastructure planning with preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2030.
The draft budget outlines a city-wide development strategy focused on sustainability, resilience and global readiness, with CWG requirements integrated into transport, drainage, mobility and civic infrastructure planning.
The overall allocation stands at ₹17,018 crore, the largest in AMC’s history.
₹9,868 crore has been earmarked for capital works including roads, bridges, drainage and urban infrastructure.
Revenue expenditure has been estimated at around ₹7,150 crore for civic services and maintenance.
No new taxes have been proposed; previously approved tax increments will continue as scheduled.
Major road widening, new flyovers, underpasses and elevated corridors have been proposed to ease congestion.
Adaptive Traffic Control Systems and junction upgrades are planned for efficient event-time traffic management.
Stormwater networks, drainage upgrades and a flood management master plan form a key part of the budget.
Data-driven platforms and AI-based monitoring systems are proposed for civic and environmental management.
